Young Actors’ Summer Theatre
(YAST)
Theatre In The Grove offers two educational experiences YAST and School of Theatre Arts Theatre In The Grove’s Young Actors’ Summer Theatre (YAST) has been serving students for over 20 years. Started in 1987 by Donald Cleland, YAST has been a favorite summer activity for children. The students meet for three and one half hours each day for two weeks. During that time they will be exploring the art of the stage through theatre games, exercises and improvisation. On the last day of class, the theatre will hold a free public performance featuring the work of the students. Once again, Theatre In the Grove’s YAST will be taught by the director of our School of Theatre Arts, Jeanna Van Dyke: “I have always believed the theatre to be the ideal “play” ground for the imagination, self-expression and creativity. Every person should have the opportunity to learn about theatre and find out about the kind of excitement the stage can hold for them.” This year, Theatre In The Grove has added an exciting new dimension to YAST: Session #4 will be dedicated to Musical Theatre! The young actors will audition, rehearse and perform a musical during the two-week session, with a special evening performance added for the public.
